I'm Dr. Universe, here to answer your baffling science questions, like this one.
Why do we need blood?
The circulatory system is a vast network of organs and vessels that help move blood through the human body.
Blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.
You can think of the circulatory system like the postal service.
The mail carriers are the red blood cells.
They transport important packages and letters, oxygen, over a network of streets and highways, your blood vessels.
About a gallon and a half of blood circulates through the human body every day to keep you alive.
The heart works hard to pump this blood and uses about the same force you would need to squeeze a tennis ball to keep blood pumping through your body.
