In 1931 a 12 year-old boy received life in prison for killing a sheriff in Asotin County.
On August 5, 1931, Herbert Niccolls killed Sheriff John L. Wormell in Asotin, Washington, at a convenience store. His crime was the beginning of a public understanding that children should be treated differently than adults in court.
