GUEST: I was working at the Pentagon, I'm working in the mail£ APPRAISER: Yeah.

GUEST: Then the president got killed.

And it come as a shock, you know.

All this mail was coming in after the funeral and everything.

APPRAISER: Exactly.

GUEST: Ah... The... it was so in flux that they couldn't take it at the p-- regular post office, so they set up a mail's place at the Pentagon.

APPRAISER: And you had to oversee that to make sure that... GUEST: And me and two other supervisors were detailed over there as we process it, and then they would£ we would bag it up, and then they would send it back t-- over to the White House, and then they would take£ APPRAISER: Right.

GUEST: ...their mail room took care... APPRAISER: ...of it from there.

GUEST: £out-- from there, yeah, right.

APPRAISER: Did you ever meet Jacqueline Kennedy?

GUEST: Yes, I did.

APPRAISER: Yeah?

GUEST: And I met the president, too, also.

APPRAISER: As well.

GUEST: Right, right, yeah.

APPRAISER: Wow.

GUEST: I met the president also.

APPRAISER: Okay, well-- well, let's start with this big piece here.

GUEST: Mm.

APPRAISER: Tell me a little bit about this card and what's special about it.

GUEST: She sent this along with the letter... APPRAISER: Mm-hmm.

GUEST: ...and the picture of the family and this picture of The Green Room.

APPRAISER: Right.

GUEST: And it came around close to Christmas time, and she put a notation on... APPRAISER: Her notation.

GUEST: ...the "Happy Christmas" and I was glad to get it, you know, as we weren't expecting, you know, no personal letter... APPRAISER: Anything from£ Okay, well, let me tell you a little bit about this.

GUEST: Yeah.

APPRAISER: There is some damage to the photograph.

GUEST: Yes.

APPRAISER: And let's just... Let's take a look at that, a closer look.

GUEST: Yeah.

APPRAISER: You see that there's a line through there.

Now, you can get that restored.

GUEST: Yes.

APPRAISER: There are photo processes now that you can get it restored.

GUEST: Uh-huh.

APPRAISER: Which I would suggest doing, because you've got the crease that goes right through... GUEST: Yeah.

APPRAISER: ...the vast section of the photograph.

GUEST: Yeah, because we've took it out-- it really-- we took it out, and it was just folded up.

She put it in the buffet, you know... APPRAISER: Right, exactly.

GUEST: ...and so that's what happened.

Yeah, right.

APPRAISER: The value here is, if you take a look at the letter, and if we get a close up here of the signature... GUEST: Uh-huh.

APPRAISER: This is a regular signature.

It's not a pen machine signature.

GUEST: Right, right.

APPRAISER: She actually signed this.

GUEST: Right, right.

APPRAISER: And also that the letter does reference-- if you read a little bit here, it does reference the president's death, and the sorrow, and thanking you for... GUEST: Right.

APPRAISER: Did you write her a letter or something?

GUEST: No, I... APPRAISER: But just for your service in sorting the letters.

GUEST: Yes, sir, this is just for our services, yeah, right.

APPRAISER: Right.

And it is on her personal stationery-- Mrs.

JFK.

GUEST: Right.

Mm-hmm, right.

APPRAISER: And this is a piece-- um, do you have any idea what the piece might be worth, or has anyone told you what it was worth?

GUEST: No.

APPRAISER: This is a great package, all of the things together.

GUEST: Uh-huh.

APPRAISER: Even... not getting the, the photograph restored£ GUEST: Right.

APPRAISER: ...enhance the value, because you have everything as one package.

APPRAISER: Um, I would say this is a piece that a collector would probably spend at least $10,000 for.
